    John,
Thanks for helping jump-start our car. We got to traverse City, bought a new battery, and drove to St. Louis.
The sweet cheeries were GREAT! We had hoped the tart cherries would be ready but we were a week or so early.
Good luck. You have a great crew.

Hey, I love your canned tart cherries in water. I use three cans to make two 9-inch pies. This is the recipe our family has used for 50 years:
Make two sauce pans each with:
    1 cup sugar
    4 TBS flour
    1 dash salt
1 cup of the water/juice from the canned cherries
Mix the dry ingredients and add the water/juice. Bring to a boil stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Then add:
    1/8 tsp almond extract
    2-3 drops red food coloring
1 1/2 cans cherries (you’ve already used the juice)
Pour each saucepan into a pastry lined 9-inch pie pan. Dot with 1 TBS of butter and 1 TBS of hard Parkay cut up in each pie. Cover with a top crust or lattice. Bake 10 min at 450 degrees then 45-50 min at 350 degrees. They should be bubbling. Enjoy.

    Hi everybody at King Orchards!
Yesterday I made an outstanding cherry pie using your Tub of Tarts. Not only is it easy, which is very much appreciated, but, more importantly, it is delicious. I’ll be buying those anytime I am in your area – thanks!

I have a question about fruit and organic farming. I am specifically interested in finding a source for organic dried (tart, unsweet or juice-sweetened) cherries. It’s proving to be a difficult task! Is organic cherry farming not possible/feasible? I love cherries, but my family is avoiding pesticides, additives, preservatives, colors/dyes, artificial flavorings and the such. Would love your feedback! Thanks

  9. John on 03 Feb 2010 at 2:26 pm

Mary White, your question concerning the very reasonable pursuit of safe food free of pesticides, additives, preservatives etc. got our attention. I wrote such a long response that I moved it to post it on the blog. So you can check out my reasoning in more detail there.

I know of one farmer growing organic cherries and I don’t know where he markets them. He does not do direct marketing.

Organic fruit growing in the Midwest has not proven to be sustainable for most of the growers who have attempted it. When we get rain, fungal spores, weed seeds and insects hatch and attack fruit and fruit trees. We do not have very effective organic responses for these pests. Consequently, organic fruit growing is mostly a niche business with small scale operations using direct marketing.

First of all I wish to thank King Orchards for wonderful and quick service and order processing. My wife and I both take daily the Montmorency Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate. After about a week of taking it I personally feel happier and more relaxed. I feel absolutely great !

We will definitely be ordering again soon. We call this our “Feel good juice”

The new site looks great. I really love the design!

Thanks Peter for the nice note. I had to edit out any reference to health. The FDA has instructed us that we cannot make any reference connecting our products to human health unless they have gone through the “drug registration process”.

I bought your product and compared it to another brand. I added one tablespoon in a glass of citrus flavored soda pop of each product. The other brand was darker, thicker, and made the soda really fizz up. Why was that? SUGAR! The other product was “pasteurized” and sold on a shelf. Yours is fresh, and not boiled down. Yours actually tastes like fruit, while the other tasted like syrup. After having your product in orange juice everyday for 2 months, it was time to re-order. I browsed a couple of sites (glass bottles are tempting), but I came back to you for the price and because you love what you do!!! It feels good to buy from the farm where people work and live to make something so tasty. My daughter drinks your cherry concentrate neat, from a 2 oz glass! She’s only 3 years old! I’m not that hardcore, but they say kids will gravitate to things that are good for them.

  14. John on 05 May 2011 at 11:50 am

Thanks for the nice comments Emily. We do not reheat the concentrate when we bottle so that it is not shelf stable (needs to be refrigerated), but that allows more of the heat sensitive anthocyanins and flavors to survive.

Thank you King Orchards, for your prompt response to orders and your wonderful, delicious products. I am so glad to have found King Orchards to order tart cherry products. I have severe joint pain, and after seeing Dr. Oz talk about tart cherry juice and the benefits, I thought well, it can’t hurt to try it. I first ordered the tart cherry juice concentrate, and within days I was feeling better, so much so that others in my office wanted to try it. I ordered a case of the concentrate, and sold every bottle! I feel good about ordering straight from a grower, rather than from a health food store (I had bought a smaller bottle of concentrate from a health food store, and it did nothing for me – does the variety of tart cherry make a difference, or maybe it’s the processing?). I then ordered the Cherry Lover’s gift box, and everything in there I have tried is wonderful! I have recently ordered the capsules to try, and hope they will give me the same benefit as the concentrate. Great job, King Orchards! I’m spreading the word!

    Henrik,
Sorry for the delay. The shipping to Germany is 43.23 plus the concentrate cost of 41.97 for a total of 85.20. We hope to hear from you. Betsy King

Thank you Cheryl we always love to hear such good feedback. Our concentrate is made from the red pie cherry called Montmorecny! Thanks for spreading the word. Betsy King
