I am pleasantly surprised at the fast pace of the ripening fruit. The raspberries will be open for u-pick in time for the Fourth of July. (Probably the M88 location will open first as apparently there are earlier varieties there.)
The sweet cherries might be open for u-pick around the Fourth also. We brought in a few from Grand Rapids to have some available last weekend and we hope to start select picking our own firm, sweet, sweet cherries for the Fourth of July.
I am checking them twice a day and I have coerced Jim and Betsy to go with me to evaluate and make predictions on the starting date. It is always difficult to get started. We typically make the decision to start, and line up a crew to pick with ladders and buckets and then after an hour we decide that the color is just not dark enough so we quit for another day or two. This year, however, I am confident that if we start slowly and pick only the trees that have a very light load we will get the best color and sweetest cherries first while the more loaded trees ripen up.

  1. How long does the sweet cherry picking season last? We want to be able to get to Traverse City or there about and pick our own, but likely won’t get up until July 20th. Will we still be able to pick then?

  2. Hi, do you think the apricots will still be available for u-pick around August 10/11? That’s our only weekend for coming up north. Thanks!

  3. My husband and I have never went to Michigan to pick peaches before. We are getting older and would like to come this year and pick a couple bushels for the freezer. We live in Indiana and we like to take trips to do things we have not done yet. He is 70 and I am 68. Could you please tell me when a good time would be to get some delicious sweet and ripe peaches. I would appreciate your response and thank you in advance. Could you also include the price. Thank you very much

    1. Geneva,

We expect our peaches to start in the first half of August but we do ask that you keep an eye on our blog or call a head before you make the drive. Nectarines will also be available around the same time.

    1. Sandy,

We do have u-pick peaches and we are expecting peaches to start in the first half of August. But we ask that you check the blog or call ahead to make sure that the peaches are ready to go.
