Cherries are one of the few known food sources of melatonin, a potent antioxidant produced naturally by the body’s pineal gland that helps regulate biorhythm and natural sleep patterns. Studies have shown that the antioxidant compounds in tart cherry juice may decrease some of the symptoms of exercise-induced muscle damage. Tart cherry juice concentrate scored highest of all fruits and vegetables in recently conducted extensive nutraceutical evaluations and ORAC testing by Brunswick Laboratories.
Anthocyanins are natural colorants belonging to a group of compounds called the flavonoids. They are widely distributed among fruits, such as cherries, vegetables and flowers. In addition to their colorful characteristics, anthocyanins possess potent antioxidant properties. Ongoing studies are also exploring the role of cherries in promoting cardiovascular health. A one ounce serving of King Orchards tart cherry juice concentrate provides 16,428 ORAC units, which measure the antioxidant capacity of foods. We recently sent out a sample of our concentrate to undergo testing with the new ORAC 5.0 testing. Read more about ORAC testing and the new results we have uncovered.
