Spring Chores

Planting sweet corn with a brand new tractor. We traded in two John Deere tractors last fall on two New Holland tractors that were delivered recently. The John Deeres were completely worn out and will be sold to salvage yards. The New Hollands are built on smaller frames that loan themselves easily to orchard work. The price on the New Hollands is easier on the orchards too!

I still get all worked up about planting corn and I hope I manage the weeds a little better this year. It takes a week or two longer for the soil to warm up enough for planting here than it does in the vegetable growing area near Bay City. So we are usually at least a week later with our early corn than they are but after we start we plant every 3 or 4 days for 5-6 weeks to keep a steady supply rolling in to the fruit stands.
