King Orchards Homemade Cherry Pie Filling Recipe
There is nothing like a pie made with homemade cherry pie filling. Not only homemade, but easy! This works great with frozen tart cherries (or fresh of course!) but our canned tart cherries are a great alternative!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cans tart cherries in water OR 6 cups frozen tart cherries
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Using canned cherries: In a 3-quart saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of the sugar, cornstarch and salt. Drain the liquid from the canned cherries into the saucepan; set cherries aside. Stir the cherry liquid into the sugar mixture until no lumps remain. Heat the mixture to boiling over medium heat, stirring frequently; continue cooking 1 minute or until mixture is thickened and slightly translucent. Add reserved tart cherries and cook for the another minute or so. Let cool. Add almond extract.
Using frozen cherries: Combine frozen cherries, sugar, and flour into a sauce pan and bring to a boil for 1 minute. Let cool. Add almond extract.
Baking: Bake at 400 for 35 minutes. Enjoy!
